Day of the Week

Born on a Monday

Monday belongs to the Moon, and it is the day that most obviously kept its ruler's name — Monday, lundi, lunes, Montag. It is the day of tides, reflection and inward weather. To be born under it is to have a nervous system slightly more open than most people's, and to spend a life learning what to do with everything that gets in.

Characteristics

Monday's children feel the room before they read it. You take in mood the way other people take in temperature — without deciding to, and often before anyone has spoken.

You have known since childhood that most of what passes between people happens underneath the words. This made you perceptive early and, for a while, probably made you anxious, because you were receiving far more signal than you had any way to interpret.

You are gentler than you let on. There is usually a competent, unbothered exterior over something considerably more tender, and the people who get past it are few and permanent.

And you are cyclical in a way that flat, consistent people find baffling. You are not the same person every week. Your energy, confidence and appetite for company move in a rhythm, and fighting that rhythm has never once worked.

Personality Traits

Perceptive to an uncomfortable degree. You notice the pause before someone answers, and you are usually right about what it meant.

Adaptable. You change shape to fit a situation without losing your centre — which looks like softness and is actually a durable kind of strength.

Retentive. You remember kindness for decades and return it, often long after the other person has forgotten they earned it. You remember the other thing too, which is less useful.

Private. You are open about ninety per cent of yourself, which successfully disguises how thoroughly closed the last ten is.

Imaginative. You dream vividly, remember it, and can work with what you find there. Some of your best thinking has arrived in a form that would sound ridiculous if you described it out loud.

Strengths

Your first strength is attunement. You know when someone is not alright long before they say so, and you are trusted with things people have told nobody else. That is not a social skill you learned; it is closer to a sense.

Your second is emotional stamina. You can stay with difficulty — someone else's or your own — without needing to fix it or flee it. Most people cannot do this for more than a few minutes.

Your third is adaptability without loss of self. You bend around obstacles that would break more rigid people, and you come back to your own shape afterwards.

And your fourth is memory. Not just for facts — for texture, for how something felt, for who was kind to you in a difficult year. It makes you an unusually loyal friend and an unusually good witness to other people's lives.

Weaknesses

What you absorb, you carry.

You can pick up someone else's mood and spend a week under weather that was never yours, without ever noticing the moment it transferred. Learning where you end and other people begin is the central practical problem of your life.

You retreat rather than argue. The retreat is quiet and reasonable-looking, and it can harden into real distance before anyone involved has registered that there was a disagreement at all.

You live in the replay. Something happens, and then you attend the version of it you reconstructed afterwards, which is usually less kind to you than the original.

And you are prone to waiting. For the right moment, for the other person to notice, for conditions to be gentler. Some of what you wanted has simply gone past while you were being patient about it.

Spiritual Guidance

Your practice is tides.

Stop treating your low water as a personal failure. You are cyclical; plan around it rather than apologising for it. Put the demanding things in your high weeks and let the low ones be quiet, and watch how much of what you called unreliability was only mistiming.

Work with the Moon directly, since it is yours. Note the phase, note how you feel, one line a day. After three months read it back — the pattern will be plainer than you expect, and seeing it in your own handwriting is worth more than being told.

Water is your element. Baths, rivers, rain, weeping when it is called for rather than three weeks later.

And say the difficult thing early, out loud, while it is still small. Left alone it does not stay small. It becomes a season.
